Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to my FAQ page for online counselling and psychotherapy in the UK. Here, you’ll find answers to common questions about how my online therapy sessions work, what to expect, and how to access professional support from anywhere in the UK. Whether you’re looking for guidance on my services or want help getting started, this page is designed to provide clear, helpful information.
I work with adolescents (14+), young adults, and adults. Sessions are tailored to each individual's needs, developmental stage, and personal circumstances, ensuring support is relevant and meaningful.
Sessions provide a confidential space to explore challenges, emotions, and patterns. Together, we identify coping strategies and therapeutic techniques that can help you manage difficulties and work towards your personal goals. You may be given between-session tasks to practise these strategies and techniques in your everyday life.
Standard individual sessions last approximately 50 minutes.
Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure, GDPR compliant, private video platform. You can attend from a location that is comfortable and safe for you. Having a device with a stable internet connection is recommended to ensure the session runs smoothly.
I integrate evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and other supportive techniques. This approach is tailored to your needs and delivered collaboratively.
I work with a range of difficulties, such as anxiety (including health and social anxiety), low mood or depression, trauma-related experiences, grief, stress, perfectionism, self-esteem and confidence difficulties, LGBTQIQA+ related stressors, family dynamics, and relationship or marital difficulties, as well as challenges with attention, emotional regulation, intrusive thoughts, and compulsive/repetitive behaviors.
Yes, all sessions are confidential and conducted in line with professional ethical standards. Client information is handled securely in accordance with UK GDPR regulations. Any limits to confidentiality, such as concerns for your safety or the safety of others, will be clearly explained during the initial session.
To schedule a session, please contact me directly through the contact form or my email. To cancel a session, contact me directly. Where possible, cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in advance to avoid any potential fees.
Before your first session, it may be helpful to reflect on your current concerns, goals, and any questions you have about therapy. You may also be asked to complete the Client Information Form and to read and sign the Counselling/Psychotherapy Agreement, Informed Consent, and Privacy Notice prior to the initial session. This helps reduce the time spent on paperwork during the session and supports a clear, informed start to our work together.
Counselling and Psychotherapy are closely related and often overlap. Both involve talking with a trained professional in a confidential, supportive space. Generally, counselling focuses on current difficulties and practical support, while psychotherapy explores longer-standing emotional patterns and past experiences.
During your first session, we will go over the Counselling/Psychotherapy Agreement, Informed Consent & Privacy Notice to ensure clarity and answer any questions. I will get to know you, exploring your specific needs and the goals you wish to achieve. Together, we will begin creating a personalised treatment plan tailored to you, supporting your goals and emotional wellbeing. This plan will guide our work in future sessions. We will also discuss practical arrangements, including the frequency of sessions.
